Manoj Muntashir's Career:

He began writing poems in his hometown while still in school. His pals introduced him to a place called "Mushaira," where he started reading poetry. With only Rs. 700 in his pocket, he relocated to Mumbai in quest of employment in 1999. Manoj met the Indian musician and vocalist Anup Jalota there, who requested that he create a Bhajan for him. He accepted the assignment because he needed the money, despite the fact that he had never written any Bhajan before.

Anup offered him a cheque for Rs. 3,000 when he finished the Bhajan; this was his first paycheck in Mumbai. He was tasked with writing the music for the movie "Rang Rasiya" in 2004, but owing to several issues, the movie wasn't released until almost ten years later, in 2014.

Amitabh Bachchan offered him the chance to write for "Kaun Banega Crorepati," an Indian TV programme that airs on Sony TV and is based on the American reality series "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire," in 2005. Additionally, he wrote the screenplays for the reality TV programmes Indian Idol Junior, Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa, and India's Got Talent.

He wrote four tunes for the 2005 movie "U, Bomsi n Me" to launch his career as a lyricist. Later, he was employed by television. His work initially gained public attention in 2014 when he penned the lyrics for a few songs on Shreya Ghoshal's debut ghazal album, "Humnasheen," which went on to become a chart-topper.

He has written lyrics of the songs: ‘Galliyan’ from the film ‘Ek Villain’ (2014), all tracks of the Hindi version of the film ‘Baahubali: The Beginning’, Jai Gangaajal’, Kuch To Hai’, ‘Do Lafzon Ki Kahaani’, ‘Rustom’, ‘M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story’, ‘Phir Bhi Tumk Chaahunga’, ‘Half Girlfriend’, ‘Baahubali 2: The Conclusion’, ‘Baadshaho’, ‘Dekhte Dekhte’, ‘Batti Gul Meter Chalu’, ‘Dil Meri Na Sune’, ‘Genius’ (2018), ‘Kaise Hua’ from the film ‘Kabir Singh’ (2019), and ‘Teri Mitti’ from the film ‘Kesari’ (2019).

Additionally, he wrote the singles for the following artists: Atif Aslam (2015), Sonu Nigam (2015), Arijit Singh (2016), Armaan Malik (2016), Rahat Fateh Ali Khan (2016), Tumhe Dillagi (2016), Himesh Reshammiya (2016), Aap Se Mausiiquii (2016) (album), Tony Kakkar and Neha Kakkar (2016), and Rocky-Shiv (2016).

With the 2015 movie "Baahubali: The Beginning," he made his screenwriting debut; he authored the dialogue for the Hindi version of the movie. Additionally, he wrote the dialogue for the Hindi versions of Marvel's Black Panther (2018), Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy (2019), and Baahubali: The Conclusion (2017). Meri Fitrat Hai Mastana, his debut novel, was released in 2018 by Vani Prakashan.

Controversy:

In 2020, 'Apna Time Aayega' from the movie 'Gully Boy' (2019), which was nominated with 'Teri Mitti' from the movie 'Kesari' (2019), won the Filmfare Award for Best Lyrics. He became angry at the defeat during Indian award events and took the decision to skip them. He declared in his social media post,

Dear Awards...even if I tried my entire life. I won't be able to come up with a better song or line than "Tu Kahti Thee Tera Chaand Hoon Main Aur Chaand Humesha Rahta hai" from "TeriMitti." You did not respect the remarks that caused millions of Indians to sob and love their country. I would be doing a grave disservice to my craft if I looked after you any longer. So let me now say my last goodbyes. I now declare that I will refrain from attending any award ceremonies till I pass away. Alvida.”

After the release of the Bollywood film Adipurush in June 2023, there was a large online response against him. He received flak for adopting everyday English in the movie, and on the internet, people made fun of him for saying things like "marega bete," "bua ka bagicha hai kya," and "jalegi tere baap ki." Due to purported threats to his life, the Mumbai Police granted him security protection on June 19, 2023.
