Sonali wanted to become a model since childhood, she started her career with Pantaloon Femina Miss India International, 2006 and was also the winner of that competition. After that, she represented India in the Miss International pageant held in Japan and China and was selected among the top 12 contestants. In 2008, Sonali Sehgal appeared as a host in UTV Bindass's TV reality show Dadagiri.

She then made appearances in a number of television ads for brands including Raymonds, Aircel, Ayur Shampoo, 7UP, Zoom TV (Let's Freshen Up), Titan Eyewear, and Oral B. In 2013, she appeared in a TV commercial for Thums Up alongside Salman Khan. She has appeared in the music videos of Atif Aslam, Dr Zeus and Prem, a Canadian singer. She has walked the ramp at Lakme Fashion Week, Wills India Fashion Week and Chennai International Fashion Week.
